Suryakumar Yadav, who had a wonderful 2022, won the T20I player of the year award on January 26. The 32-year-old had a scintillating last year as he accumulated 1,164 runs and became the first Indian to score more than 1000 T20I runs in a calendar year.
It would be fair to say that SKY has revolutionised the shortest format of the game with his variety of strokes. No batter in the world utilises the ground dimensions better than him. SKY has made fans fall in love with his flamboyant style of play and his ability to strike the ball behind the wicket so well.
The latest celebrity to fall in love with SKY’s batting is Australian legend, Ricky Ponting. The former Aussie skipper spoke highly of Yadav and even hailed him as the best T20I batter.
“The way he is batting, he is doing it better than anyone’s ever done it. Surya’s ability to score 360 degrees is remarkable, and some of his shots are a treat to watch.”
The DC head coach has spent a good time watching players grow at the IPL from close quarters, and one of them is Surya. Speaking about his technique, Ponting said that SKY has recently mastered the skill to hit over the keeper’s head.
“Five or six years ago, he was good at flicking the ball, but now, he hit the ball over the keeper’s head, and they go for six, not even four.”
