Ponting added that he was surprised to see Rahul Dravid take up the job as he has a young family to take care of.

Former Australian captain and Delhi Capitals head coach took to Twitter to congratulate Team India’s newest Test debutant Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer became the 303rd Indian men’s cricketer to make his Test debut. He was handed his debut cap by legendary Sunil Gavaskar.

Ponting has closely work with Iyer in the Indian Premier League.

“Having seen all the work you’ve put in over the last few years, very well deserved and only the beginning for you mate. Proud of you @ShreyasIyer15.”

He has scored 4592 runs in 54 first-class games which includes 23 half-centuries and 12 tons.

Meanwhile, Ponting was surprised to see Rahul Dravid as Team India’s head coach. He thought Dravid would decline the offer as he has a young family.
