The Royal Challengers Bangalore have not accepted Virat Kohli’s resignation as captain yet.

The 33-year old had announced his decision to step down as the team’s skipper during the second leg of IPL 2021, having led the franchise since 2013 and have been associated with the Bangalore-based franchise since the inaugural season of the tournament in 2008.

While the spot is still vacant, the RCB management has not officially approved the 33-year old’s resignation.

The RCB will name their captain on March 12. Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and pacer Mohammed Siraj were retained ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Kohli had clarified that he would continue with the team despite leaving the leadership role.

It is speculated that Faf du Plessis is likely to replace Virat after being bought by the franchise for INR 7 crore at the mega auction.

RCB, who are placed in Group B alongside Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans, will play their first match against Punjab Kings on March 27 at the DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.
