The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced the schedule for the first phase of the Indian Premier League 2026, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru set to take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening fixture of the 19th season at the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 28.

The governing council of the league has announced the schedule for 20 matches, which will be played from March 28 to April 12. Assembly elections are due in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and West Bengal. Once the Election Commission of India announces the dates of the voting in four states, the Indian Cricket Board will not be able to come up with the next set of matches.

A total of 74 contests will be played in the upcoming season. Mumbai Indians will compete against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29, while Rajasthan Royals will host the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings on March 30.
