Ravindra Jadeja has reportedly been ruled out of the upcoming four-match Test series against England, starting February 05. The all-rounder had fractured his thumb in the third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the Team India squad for the first two Tests against England, the same day after India ended Australia’s run of 31 Test matches unbeaten at the Gabba in Brisbane.
According to a report filed in the Indian Express, Jadeja is likely to miss the entire Test series and his participation in the limited-overs fixtures is also in doubt.
“He is out of Test series and he will take more than six weeks to recover completely. The selectors will take a call later, whether to include him in the team for the shorter formats,” a BCCI official told the Indian Express.
Jadeja returned to India along with the rest of the Indian contingent from Australia on Thursday morning and would now be sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for rehabilitation.
But, as things stand, Jadeja is likely to spend more time on the sidelines than what was earlier expected. Notably, he had suffered multiple injuries during the tour, including a hamstring injury in the first T20I between India and Australia.
All-rounder Axar Patel has been named in the squad for the first two Test, alongside Washington Sundar, to compete for the same spot in Jadeja’s absence.
India squad for first two Tests: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma, Mayank Agarwal, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (Vice-captain), KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Wriddhiman Saha (wicket-keeper), R Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Md. Siraj, and Shardul Thakur.
