Overview:
Money is also an issue as the Royals only have INR 30 lakh in their purse, while Curran was signed by CSK for INR 2.4 crore.
The trade deal involving Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson has taken a hit. Rajasthan Royals’ overseas quota is full, and they don’t have the purse to bring Sam Curran, who is also a part of the deal, on board.
Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan have initiated the Expression of Interest (EOI) for the swap two days ago, but the BCCI hasn’t received a formal request.
The process was looking simple when the talks started, with the two franchises agreeing to contact the Indian cricket board for approval, but the complication arose due to the inclusion of Sam Curran, who is ready to leave CSK for RR. Curran is an overseas cricketer, and Rajasthan’s foreign quota is full.
Jofra Archer, Shimron Hetmyer, Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Kwena Maphaka, Nandre Burger, and Lhuan-dre Pretorius are the overseas players of Rajasthan. The 2008 champions will have to release one to sign Curran.
Money is also an issue as the Royals only have INR 30 lakh in their purse, while Curran was signed by CSK for INR 2.4 crore. Although Rajasthan have 22 players and they are short of three of the allowed 25, they can’t get Curran unless the decision-makers release an overseas player and a cricketer of the value of the contract.
According to Cribuzz, the franchise is planning to release Wanindu Hasaranga (INR 5.25 cr) and Maheesh Theekshana (INR 4.40 cr) to get the funds and create a space for the overseas player to complete the deal with CSK.
The decision is expected to be finalised after November 15, as all the franchises will announce the players they have retained and released before IPL 2026. For now, Rajasthan can’t add Jadeja and Curran to their team.
