Former India coach Ravi Shastri opened up on Rob Key’s role as the Managing Director at England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Shastri feels that a jealous gang in India always wants you to fail. He said that Key would learn the system with time and adjust to the situations accordingly.
Shastri, who was India’s head coach for four years, went through a lot during his time with the national team. He urged Key to be strong as there will be people who will wish for his failure.
“In India, there is always a jealous gang willing you to fail. I had developed a thick skin, thicker than the leather of the Dukes’ ball you use. A real solid hide. Rob will develop this as he does the job because every day, you are judged. I am glad he has a lot of captaincy experience from his time at Kent because the communication with the players is most important,” Shastri told The Guardian.
