Ravi Shastri’s tenure as India head coach ended last month after the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. While he was successful in the bilateral series, his track record in ICC tournaments was not impressive. Team India competed in three ICC events under his coaching but couldn’t lift the trophy once.

While India lost in the semis and final of the 2019 World Cup and 2019-21 World Test championship, they couldn’t cross the Super 12 stage in the 2021 T20 World Cup. “I didn’t have any say in the selection of the team. Three wicketkeepers were chosen for the World Cup, and I was not happy about that. Ambati or Shreyas might have been in. What was the logic in having MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh [Pant] together?,” he said in a conversation with the Times of India.

“But I never interfered in the selectors’ work, except when asked for feedback or as part a general discussion,” India won seven out of nine fixtures in the 2019 World Cup and was a dominant team,” Shastri added.
