With the victory against Bangladesh, Afghanistan became the first team to qualify for the super four round in the Asia Cup 2022.
It was another top-notch bowling display from Mohammad Nabi’s men as spinners Mujeeb Ur Rehman and Rashid Khan picked three wickets each to topple Bangladesh’s batting order.
The highlight of the match was Najibullah Zadran’s quickfire 43 off 17 deliveries, but the due credit must go to the bowlers for restricting ‘The Tigers’ to 127.
Rashid, who went wicketless in the first match against Sri Lanka, picked up 3/22 in his four overs against Bangladesh.
With the three-wicket haul, the 23-year-old surpassed New Zealand seamer Tim Southee to become the 2nd highest wicket-taker in T20Is.
Rashid started the match with 112 wickets and took his tally to 115, one more than Southee’s 114 wickets. Further, the spin maestro is just behind Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, who has 122 T20I wickets.
With the feat, Rashid also registered his 17th 3-wicket haul, the most by any player in T20Is. The second on the list is Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane, who has thirteen 3-wicket hauls in his T20I career.
Rashid made his T20I debut in 2015. He has played 68 matches, averaging 13.73 and an economy rate of 6.16. With that rate, he is the most economical bowler among the top 10 leading wicket-takers in T20Is. His wicket tally includes five four-wicket hauls and one fifer.
