Overview:

Rashid holds the record for the most three-wicket and four-wicket hauls in T20Is.

Rashid Khan made history in the opening T20I against Bangladesh, even though Afghanistan lost by four wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Ground. Delivering a stunning performance of 4 for 18, he set multiple world records and almost single-handedly influenced the result of the match.

While chasing a target of 153, Bangladesh suffered a dramatic collapse, losing six wickets for only nine runs in a span of four overs. Rashid was the catalyst behind this stunning shift in momentum, claiming the wickets of Saif Hassan, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain and Tanzid Hasan. However, despite his impressive spell, Afghanistan couldn’t maintain the pressure. After Rashid finished his bowling, Narul Hasan (23 off 11 balls) and Rishad Hossain (14 off 9 balls) combined to form a crucial 36-run partnership in just 18 balls.

Although his team was defeated, Rashid made a significant mark in cricket history. This was his fifth four-wicket haul as captain, a milestone that made him the first to achieve such a feat. He aslo broke the previous record held by Charles Perchard of Jersey. No other captain from full-member nations has claimed more than two four-wicket hauls in T20Is while leading their team. Both Lasith Malinga and Shakib Al Hasan have taken two four-wicket hauls while captaining their teams.

Furthermore, Rashid has now joined Perchard as the only second player to take 10 three-wicket hauls while captaining a team. He also became the first player from a full-member nation to achieve this, surpassing the record held by Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe.

His 27th three-wicket haul added to both of these records, with no other player having more than 19 such performances. Additionally, Rashid took four wickets in an innings for the 11th time. Bangladesh’s cricket legend, Shakib Al Hasan, ranks second with 8 such performances.
