R Ashwin has come a long way in his career and looks more fitter and hungrier at the moment.

Team India defeated Australia in a Test series in 2019. It was India’s first red-ball series win Down Under. The players were jubilant and the party was on as it was a big moment for everyone. However, R Ashwin was not happy and felt like he has been crushed. According to the champion spinner, when head coach Ravi Shastri stated that Kuldeep Yadav would be India’s number one spinner in overseas conditions, he was taken aback.

Kuldeep took a five-fer in Sydney. While the match ended in a draw, India won a historic Test series. Speaking to The Cricket Monthly, Ashwin revealed about his feelings.

“I hold Ravi bhai in high esteem. We all do. And I understand we all can say things and then retract them. In that moment, though, I felt crushed. Absolutely crushed,” he said.

He added that it was tough for him to deal with what Ravi Shastri said.

“If I feel like I am being thrown under the bus, how am I supposed to get up and come for a party to enjoy the team’s or team-mate’s success? I went back to my room and then I spoke to my wife. And my children were there. So we were able to, you know, shrug it off, and I still made it to the party, because, end of the day, we had won a massive series,” he added.
