The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka is set to take place at Mohali from March 4.
It will be a historic Test match for former skipper Virat Kohli, who will be playing in his 100th Test. He will become the 12th Indian cricketer to achieve this landmark.
However, the match could prove to be a memorable one for Ravichandran Ashwin as he is on the verge of overtaking former India captain Kapil Dev in the list of most wickets taken in Test cricket by an Indian bowler.
India’s greatest all-rounder took 434 wickets, while Ashwin has 430 scalps in the game’s longest format.
If Ashwin manages to go past Kapil, he will be the second-highest wicket-taker for India in red-ball cricket.
Legendary Spinner Anil Kumble heads the list with 619 wickets and is the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the world.
Most wickets by an Indian bowler in Test cricket
Anil Kumble- 619
