After the Asia Cup win, India will shift their focus towards the ICC World Cup 2023. The Men in Blue have a settled side but dealt a heavy blow as Axar Patel got injured against Bangladesh and could not feature against Sri Lanka in the finals.
Washington Sundar was called in late but did not get the chance to bowl or bat in the finals. the management is looking for spin-all-rounders as backup players in case Axar Patel’s injury turns out to be serious.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma hinted at R Ashwin being in the scheme of things, and the right-arm off-spinner could be a late addition to the 15-member squad despite playing just two ODIs in the last six years.
India wants a player who can contribute with the bat at the No.8 position, which is why they are turning their eye towards Ashwin.
in the post-match conference, Rohit remarked, “For “the spin bowling all-rounder slot, there are many people in line. R Ashwin is also there, as I am regularly talking to Ashwin over the phone. Along with Ash, there is Axar and Washington too.”
Ashwin last played an ODI 18 months ago against South Africa in January 2022.
