On Friday, Punjab Kings confirmed Trevor Bayliss’ appointment as their new head coach for the 16th season of the Indian Premier League.
He was England’s coach when the Eoin Morgan-led team won the World Cup in 2019. Bayliss has won two IPL titles and one Big Bash League title as well.
“I am honored to be given the head coach’s role by the Punjab Kings. A foundation franchise with an appetite for success. I look forward to working with talented players determined to win a trophy for the franchise,” said Bayliss in a statement issued by Punjab Kings.
He has replaced Anil Kumble, whose contract was not renewed by the franchise after failing to lead the team to success in his three-year tenure.
Punjab’s only appearance in the finale came in 2014 when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders.
Punjab Kings have finished sixth in the last four seasons of the IPL. In the previous season, Mayank Agarwal was given the captain’s armband, but he too failed.
Mayank and Arshdeep Singh were the only players retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022.
