Chennai Super Kings were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2025. The hosts posted just 103/9 in 20 overs and the visiting franchise completed the chase in 10.1 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Sunil Narine was named the player of the match for taking three wickets and scoring 44 runs at Chepauk.
It is one of the worst defeats in the history of CSK, and the former players are stunned by the downfall of the team. MS Dhoni returned as a captain for the contest, but he managed just 1 run and didn’t give the ball to Noor Ahmad at the start of Kolkata’s innings.
Former player and one of the members of the 1983 World Cup winning team, Kris Srikkanth, has urged Chennai to sign discarded and unsold player Prithvi Shaw to save their season. Prithvi was dropped from Mumbai’s team for domestic tournaments due to discipline and fitness issues.
“One of CSK’s worst defeats ever. Powerplay batting looked like a rehearsal for a test match. Whole XI feels like it’s running on nostalgia. Time to think out of the box, why not try isome unsold players like Prithvi Shaw at this point? Would you try it? , even chaos is a strategy?” he wrote on X.

The biggest setback for the batter came in the IPL 2025 mega auction when not even a single franchise out of 10 bid for him. Since then, he has been away from action.
The suggestion given by Srikkanth doesn’t hold any relevance as the team management and the other decision-makers would never bring in a player like Shaw, who has been out of form for a long time.
