R Ashwin and Axar Patel starred with the ball, helping India decimate England by an innings and 25 runs in the fourth Test to wrap up the four-match series by 3-1. Trailing India by 160 runs, the English batsmen failed to stamp their authority as the Indian bowlers wreaked havoc.
Barring Dan Lawrence (50), no other England batsman managed to provide any resistance on a pitch that was not a rank-turner by any means. Ashwin and Axar continued their dominant form but it was the former who was adjudged Man of the Series. Rishabh Pant was named man of the match for his 118-ball 101.
The veteran off-spinner finished the series as the highest wicket-taker, picking up an impressive 32 wickets with the help of three five-wicket hauls. The 34-year-old had also scored a ton in the second innings of the second Test in his home town.
As Ashwin lifted the Player of the Series trophy, his wife, Prithi, took a photo of the moment and posted it on Twitter with an adorable message. She also asked her husband, who has been staying in the bio-bubble since August, to break the bubble and return home.
“now break the bubbbubble and come home already. @ashwinravi99,” Prithi Ashwin captioned the picture.
