Ravi Shastri
Reetinder Singh Sodhi feels it will be “impossible” to remove Ravi Shastri from the head coach position if the Virat Kohli-led side wins the upcoming World Cup.

Ever since Rahul Dravid was named the stand-in coach for India’s upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, many fans and experts of the game see him as the successor of Ravi Shastri.

Notably, Shastri’s tenure as Team India’s head coach will come to an end after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup later this year. In the same light, there are a lot of speculations doing the rounds on social media that Dravid could take over the role of India’s head coach in the future.

However, the former Indian cricketer Reetinder Singh Sodhi feels it will be “impossible” to remove Ravi Shastri from the head coach position if the Virat Kohli-led side wins the upcoming World Cup.

“It will be very harsh to say that Ravi has not performed well. He has done quite well but if the parameter is winning trophies, we have not done that. But if the Indian team wins the T20 World Cup, it will be impossible to remove Shastri.”

“I know, the way Rahul bhai has gone to Sri Lanka as a coach and the board rejected the proposal of two additional batsmen, you get a somewhat different signal. If you ask me, there is pressure on Ravi bhai.

Under Shastri, India defeated Australia in Australia twice and also reached the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup. Kohli’s men even secured their berth in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC) but lost the summit clash to New Zealand by 8 wickets in Southampton.

The leadership duo of Shastri and Kohli is yet to get their hands on an ICC trophy.
