Many young players are knocking on the doors of selectors. With Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara in their mid-30s and undergoing a bit of a slump, the next generation of players is waiting for their chances. After Sanjay Manjrekar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sunil Gavaskar is the latest legend to demand the inclusion of Sarfaraz Khan in the Test squad.
Sarfaraz Khan, 24, has been in the form of his life. The youngster from Mumbai scored 982 runs from six matches in Ranji Trophy, at an unbelievable average of 122.75, including four centuries and two fifties.
He was named the Player of the Tournament for his effort. “Sarfaraz should be included in the side; what else do you need from a player. He scored more than 900 runs in two successive seasons. Sarfaraz has banged the door of the selectors hard, and it would be a real surprise if he is not picked for the next Test series,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for Mid-Day.
Gavaskar has named a few that have impressed him in the recently concluded Ranji Trophy season.
“Rajat Patidar was impressive for Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji campaign. He is a brilliant player.”
