Pat Cummins made a grand Test captaincy debut with a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the first Ashes Test against England at the Gabba. Cummins took 5/38 as England were dismissed for 147 runs inside two sessions of the opener.
Cummins bowled 13.1 overs and dismissed 5 batters, including that of star all-rounder Ben Stokes and well-set Haseeb Hameed. Cummins became the second Australia captain after George Giffen in 1984 to pick a 5-wicket haul in the first Test as skipper.
The pacer also became the first skipper to take a 5-wicket haul in an Ashes Test since Bob Willis in 1982.
Cummins also joined the list of captains who took a 5-wicket haul on their first day as the side leader.
