The PCB has chosen two venues for the hybrid model of the Asia Cup 2023. India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament has created a dispute between the two countries.
The PCB also stated that they would not compete in the 2023 Cricket World Cup if India does not travel to Pakistan.
During an ACC meeting, PCB chief Najam Sethi proposed a hybrid model with India playing in the UAE. However, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh rejected this idea. Sethi then suggested hosting the Asia Cup in England.
The Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host four matches, while the rest of the tournament will be at the Dubai International Stadium. The PCB believes Dubai will have better ticket sales.
They do not want to host the tournament outside Pakistan to maintain efforts to bring back international cricket.
Sethi expressed concerns about Pakistan’s prospects of going to India for the World Cup. He said cricket would suffer if India refuses to travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup. Sethi called for finding a middle ground to ensure the smooth hosting of ICC and ACC events.
If India doesn’t go to Pakistan, the government won’t allow Pakistan to travel to India for the World Cup matches.
