Seven years ago on January 18, AB de Villiers achieved a record of scoring the fastest fifty and hundred in the ODIs.
In the second ODI match against West Indies in Johannesburg, he first completed his fifty in 16 balls, surpassing Sanath Jayasuriya’s record of 17 balls and then touched the three-figure mark in 31 balls.
With this, the legendary cricketer broke the record of New Zealand’s Corey Anderson, who had amassed his ton in 36 balls in 2014.
ABD could have hit the fastest 150 as well but was clean bowled at 149. He hit 16 sixes and 9 fours in his innings. Apart from him, Hashim Amla scored an unbeaten 153, while Rilee Rossouw accumulated 128 runs.
South Africa had put 439 runs on the board. Chasing 440, West Indies managed 291 for 7 and lost the game by 148 runs.
