Overview:
Oman is playing more ODIs than T20Is despite knowing the fact that they had to compete in a global event related to the shortest format.
The International Cricket Council wants to expand the game, but the global body is not interested in giving regular opportunities to associate nations across formats. Oman captain Jatinder Singh exposed the apex body’s double standards after losing to Sri Lanka in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Oman were not able to challenge the co-hosts and fell short by 105 runs in a chase of 226.
Sri Lanka dominated the batting and bowling departments and secured one of the biggest wins in their history. Only two Oman batters were able to touch the double-digit mark, which shows the big difference between the two sides. Minnow nations are added to global tournaments just to fill in the numbers in the name of giving them experience.
Although Jatinder didn’t name anyone, he didn’t hold back in his criticism of the fewer opportunities. Surprisingly, Oman is playing more ODIs than T20Is despite knowing the fact that they had to compete in a global event related to the shortest format.
“We can’t do anything about the skill level. There are hardly four or five players in our squad who have played 40+ T20Is. There is a lack of experience and we are not part of the FTP. There are no games for us. We play ODIs but not a lot of T20Is. Our coaches are trying their best to get us ready but certain things are not in our control. We can get the experience and exposure by playing,” he said.
