Sunil Gavaskar wants the BCCI to appoint Rishabh Pant as a new captain in the game's longest format.

Virat Kohli-led Team India has been a massive flop when it comes to taking DRS calls in the ongoing second Test against England. On day two of the match, the visitors lost two reviews in a span of quick time.

Despite Rishabh Pant’s no, Virat Kohli still went upstairs after Mohammed Siraj requested him and the end result was not in India’s favour.  Sunil Gavaskar has cautioned Team India and stated that Pant should take the calls instead of Virat Kohli.

Gavaskar said on the Sony Sports Network, “I believe only the wicketkeeper should decide whether it’s worth going for a DRS, because every bowler thinks the batsman is out. Similarly, a batsman when given out LBW thinks he might be not out. The first one was a bit close, but on the second appeal, Rishabh Pant was constantly saying ‘don’t take it, don’t take it,’ but at the last second, Kohli reviewed.”

He further spoke about Kohli’s mindset when he took the second review so soon. “Virat Kohli probably thought that if India can get Joe Root early, we can get the rest of the batsmen out quickly.”
