Instead of taking the name of R Ashwin, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar said the veteran spinner’s bowing spell was behind the team’s defeat against South Africa.
The Proteas thumped India by 5 wickets to take the top spot in Group 2 of the ICC T20 World Cup. Virat Kohli dropped Aiden Markram’s catch, while Rohit Sharma missed David Miller’s run-out.
Gavaskar explained why poor fielding was not behind India’s defeat. “Dropping catches and missing run-outs happen in cricket. Even big players can commit a mistake but a bowler giving away 43 runs was the main reason behind defeat,” Gavaskar told Aaj Tak.
Ashwin bowled four overs and conceded 43 runs in 4 overs. Ashwin dismissed Tristan Stubbs but ended up conceding 13 runs in the 18th over, which paved the way for South Africa’s win.
