Team India’s campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup ended in the semi-final, with England winning the contest by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval. Rahul Dravid had refused to comment on the future of Indian players. However, a report cited that skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and R Ashwin will be phased out of the shorter format.
The BCCI wants a new team for the next ICC T20 World Cup edition in 2024. Hardik Pandya is the long-term captaincy choice in T20Is.
“The board never asks anyone to retire. There are only a few T20Is scheduled in 2023, and the players will be playing ODIs and Tests,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
“You don’t need to announce retirement, but most of the seniors will not be playing T20Is from next year,” the source added.
The focus will be on the ODIs considering the World Cup in India. India will play 25 ODIs ahead of the World Cup and play 12 T20Is.
