Ricky Ponting is not interested to coach Team India, while Stephen Fleming hasn’t given assurance to the BCCI. Justin Langer is not ready to come on board. The reason is the demanding nature of the job and the expectations from the fans. The head coach of the national team will have to work for 10 months in a year and with all the big names associated with T20 franchises, the possibility of signing a legendary overseas cricketer looks grim.

Gautam Gambhir is also in the fray but his strict working style could lead to problems with the senior players. Former India player Parthiv Patel wants the apex body of the Indian cricket to hire a local coach.

Rahul Dravid’s tenure will end after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the BCCI has already started the process of hiring a new head of the coaching staff. Dravid is not interested to reapply for the job.

“A lot of coaches from NCA have joined Team India. I don’t think there is a need to look for overseas coaches,” Parthiv Patel said to PTI.

Patel also spoke about Chandrakant Pandit, who led Madhya Pradesh to Ranji Trophy title. He is the current head coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders and the franchise has made it to the final in IPL 2024.

“We have several qualified coaches in India. We are winning the U19 World Cup on consistent basis. Chandrakant Pandit is a big example. When you have such names in the system, you don’t need to look outside,” he added.

“Laxman Bhai has taken Rahul bhai’s place in the past. He is also a good coach and there are others at the NCA as well,” he concluded.
