The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has already started preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The January 1 review meeting laid the foundation for the future tournaments and now the focus is likely to shift towards the head coach.

Rahul Dravid’s contract will expire after the global event in the sub-continent country and he will not be considered for an extension. News18 Cricketnext has reliably learnt that the Indian cricket board wants VVS Laxman, , Head of Cricket at the NCA, to replace Dravid.

The 48-year-old was one of the contenders when Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri after the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021. Laxman travelled with the Indian national cricket team as a head coach in Dravid’s absence.

Laxman is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is grooming the young players.

Rahul Dravid hasn’t been successful with the team. India were eliminated from the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. The squad also failed in South Africa and lost the rescheduled Test against England.

The biggest test for Dravid will be the next four-match Test series against Australia. India will have to win three Tests to qualify for the final of the ICC World Test Championship.

The review meeting was attended by BCCI president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, Rohit, Dravid, Laxman and chairman of previous selection committee Chetan Sharma.
