The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to comment on the participation of the Bangladesh players in the Indian Premier League 2026, with one of the sources saying that they haven’t received any communication from the government on the issue. Amid social media flak on the signing of the fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman by the Kolkata Knight Riders, the Indian Cricket Board’s source mentioned that the government has not given any directive to keep the Bangladeshi players away from the upcoming season of the tournament.
Rahman became the most expensive Bangladesh player ever after the three-time champions KKR signed him for INR 9.20 crore at the mini auction held last month. The signing has been questioned by many in India after violent incidents against minorities in Bangladesh.
“There is no point in getting into this. This is not in our hands. We haven’t received any communication from the Indian government telling us to stop Bangladesh players from playing in IPL 2026. We can’t comment on the matter as of now,” a BCCI source told IANS.
Rahman has been a part of the league in the past and has taken 65 wickets in 60 matches at an economy of 8.13. He made his IPL debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. He has represented the Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings as well. Rahman was released by CSK after the IPL 2024 and then joined DC last season as an injury replacement, in place of Jake Fraser-McGurk.
Spiritual guru Devkinandan Thakur slammed KKR co-owner Shah Rukh Khan for signing Rahman, stating that Hindus were hurt by the inclusion of the Bangladesh player in the team.
