New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by 61 runs in their second match of the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. With their second consecutive loss, the co-host has been eliminated from the global tournament. Chasing 169, the Lankans were restricted to 107/8 runs in their allotted 20 overs. Surprisingly, Rachin Ravindra, the part-time spinner, took four wickets for the Kiwis. Kamindu Mendis (31) and Dunith Wellalage (26) were the top scorers for the sub-continent nation.
Earlier, Mitchell Santner (47) and Cole McConchie (31*) sensational batting in the death overs took New Zealand’s total to 168/7. Dushmantha Chameera and Maheesh Theekshana dismissed three batters each.
