Afghanistan pace bowler Naveen-ul-Haq will retire from ODIs after the ICC World Cup 2023 in India, starting on October 5. The 24-year-old was recalled to the ODI side for the global tournament.

Naveen missed the two T20Is against Bangladesh due to knee injury and went under the knife to fix the issue. He told Cricbuzz on Wednesday (September 27) that he is planning to quit the fifty-over format on the advice of a physician to prolong his career.

“I’ll be retiring from ODI cricket after the ICC World Cup 2023,” Naveen told Cricbuzz. “I want to concentrate on shortest format to manage workload and injuries,” he said.

“I am lucky to be a part of the World Cup squad but I will have to focus on T20 cricket to keep playing,” he added.
