The IPL has played a key role in the development of the players. Meanwhile, there have been some instances where some experts have blamed the league for the poor performance of the teams.

When Australia whitewashed England 4-0 in the Ashes, Michael Atherton and Micky Arthur said that the English players should not play in the IPL. However, former England captain Nasser Hussain thinks the opposite and credited Morgan for realizing the importance of IPL.

When there are reports of England’s white-ball captain Eoin Morgan mulling over his retirement, Nasser Hussain has heaped praises on the 35-year-old. He credited Morgan for transforming white-ball cricket by making English cricketers realize the value of IPL and encouraging them to play in it.

Morgan, who led England to their first-ever ODI World Cup win in 2019, has improved the likes of Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and Jonny Bairstow, reckons Nasser Hussain.

In his column for Daily Mail, he wrote, “He was also ahead of his time, along with Kevin Pietersen, in realizing the value of the IPL. Firstly, he worked hard on Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, and Liam Livingstone. Then he encouraged them to play in the IPL, where they learned to be even better.”

Morgan is going through an extended rough patch and was even dropped by KKR ahead of this year’s IPL. But still, his contribution to English cricket as a captain makes him one of the most influential figures in their cricketing history.

He further described Morgan and wrote, “As an on-field captain, he was cool, calm, and calculated. He was icy-cold. Like all the best leaders, he had a presence. And the one time he didn’t get things right, he learned from it. So, when it came to Jofra Archer’s Super Over against New Zealand at Lord’s in the 50-over final in 2019, Morgan made sure he spoke to his bowler after he began with a tight wide.”
