Rohit’s hilarious response to Smriti Mandhana has fans in splits

India’s ODI and Test captain, Rohit Sharma, had the audience in stitches with his witty reply to a question from Smriti Mandhana at the Naman Awards 2023-24. The star-studded event took place on February 1 in Mumbai.

Rohit, known for his forgetfulness, has long been a target of playful teasing from his teammates. Smriti Mandhana, vice-captain of India’s women’s cricket team, jokingly asked the veteran batter if he had taken up any new hobbies recently that his teammates had started teasing him about. In response, Rohit Sharma shared his signature humor.

“I’m not sure. My friends joke around about how I forget things. It’s not a hobby, of course, but they tease me about forgetting my wallet and passport. Honestly, that’s something that happened a long time ago—decades ago, in fact.”

“I can’t say that! If this is going live, my wife will be watching, and I better keep that to myself.”

At the Naman Awards, Rohit Sharma reflected on India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory, sharing that it took him some time to truly appreciate the magnitude of the achievement. He mentioned that it wasn’t until they reached Mumbai and celebrated with the fans that he fully realized how special the win was

“It took some time for me to truly realize that we had won the World Cup. It wasn’t until we reached Mumbai that we truly realized the magnitude of what we had accomplished. Unfortunately, we were stuck in Barbados because of the hurricane, so we couldn’t go out and celebrate.”

“We were stranded for three to four days, and when you win an ICC trophy—especially away from home—you just want to bring it back and celebrate with your fans. When we finally arrived in Mumbai, we got a glimpse of the excitement. The next morning, it hit me just how special that achievement was.”

India triumphed over South Africa by seven runs in the final to secure the title. Meanwhile, veteran players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 internationals after the victory.
