Overview:

Mustafizur was the sole Bangladeshi cricketer to secure an IPL contract this season. Although Taskin Ahmed was in contention, he was not selected by any team.

Mustafizur Rahman is expected to miss some part of the IPL 2026 season, with Bangladesh Cricket Board sources saying he will be unavailable between April 16 and 23. Bangladesh’s scheduled home ODI and T20I series against New Zealand overlaps with the IPL calendar. The tournament is likely to run from March 26 to May 31.

The left-arm seamer is usually rested during one-day internationals but continues to be a key member of Bangladesh’s T20I squad. There is a chance that Mustafizur may receive an NOC for the T20I matches, while being held back from participating in the ODI fixtures of the series.

Mustafizur was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.20 crore on Tuesday, making him the most expensive Bangladeshi player in IPL history. He also became the fourth cricketer from Bangladesh to represent the Knight Riders in the tournament.

Mustafizur was the sole Bangladeshi cricketer to secure an IPL contract this season. Although Taskin Ahmed was in contention, he was not selected by any team. Shoriful Islam, Litton Das, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Rishad Hossain, and Rakibul Hasan were registered but did not enter the auction pool.

Mashrafe Mortaza was the first Bangladeshi to play for the franchise back in 2009, while Shakib Al Hasan later became a vital member of Kolkata Knight Riders’ title-winning teams in 2012 and 2014. Litton Das was the most recent Bangladeshi to feature for KKR, appearing in one match during the 2023 season, before Mustafizur joined the squad for the new season.
