Ajaz Patel has become just the third bowler in cricket history to take all 10 wickets in a test innings after taking 10-119 for New Zealand against India in Mumbai, the city where he was born.

Mumbai-born Ajaz Patel picked up his 3rd five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket on Day 2 of the ongoing match at Wankhede to become the first New Zealand spinner to take a 5-wicket haul in the first innings of a Test in India.

Ajaz dismissed Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer on Day 1 before returning to complete his five wickets by sending back Indian wicket-keeper batter Wridhhiman Saha and R Ashwin in his first over. Notably, he has taken all three five-wicket hauls in Asia.

“The reality of Test cricket is if you put the ball in good areas for long periods, you will see rewards,” said Patel.

“It was my day today, and I am very, very lucky to be sitting here with four wickets, and I am pretty happy about it. Being in my hometown at Wankhede is quite special for me.”

Most 5-wicket hauls by New Zealand bowlers in Asia:

8 – Daniel Vettori (21 Tests)
5 – Sir Richard Hadlee (13 Tests)
3 – Tim Southee (13 Tests)
3 – Ajaz Patel (7 Tests)*
