India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has voiced his support for Sanju Samson, stating that the wicketkeeper-batter is in a good place in terms of his preparation. Morkel believes Samson is just one big knock away from regaining his top form, with the T20 World Cup fast approaching.
Samson’s tough run continues in the current T20I series against New Zealand, where his scores of 10, 6, and 0 have resulted in a mere 16 runs. Samson’s struggles were clear in the third T20I in Guwahati, where he was sent back for a golden duck, beaten by the pace of Matt Henry’s delivery. Despite these setbacks, Morkel was quick to downplay any worries, emphasizing that form dips are part and parcel of the game.
“Sanju is just one big knock away from rediscovering his form. We all know the saying, ‘form is temporary.’ As we build up to the World Cup, it’s crucial for the players to peak at the right time. He’s training hard, striking the ball well, so I believe it’s only a matter of time before he gets his rhythm back,” Morkel shared with reporters at the pre-match press conference on Tuesday.
Morkel stressed that team success is more important than individual form, highlighting the team’s 3-0 lead in the series. He expressed confidence that Sanju will regain his form and contribute runs before the World Cup.
He emphasized that team results take precedence over individual form slumps. “The key focus is that the team is winning, and that’s what matters most. We’re 3-0 up in the series, the boys are playing great cricket, and with a few games left before the World Cup, I have no doubt Sanju will find his form and put runs on the board,” he said.
