Mohammed Shami was sensational in the only over he bowled in a warm-up game against Australia.

Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against Australia. According to Cricbuzz, the veteran has tested positive for COVID-19 and has not reached Mohali, the venue of the first game.

The BCCI officials and the team management have been informed about Shami. The Australian team are also in the city.

Umesh Yadav is likely to replace Shami and his availability is subject to him testing negative for the virus.

Umesh recently returned from the United Kingdom after suffering from a quad muscle injury while playing for Middlesex. The club revealed that Umesh, who travelled to India, for consultation with BCCI’s medical team, has not returned after he was deemed unfit for four-day games.

Shami is also part of the squad for a three-match T20I series against South Africa but his participation will depend on his negative report. It is huge setback for Shami, who was picked in a T20I side after almost a year.

India Squad for Australia T20Is: Rohit Sharma (Captain), KL Rahul (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant (wicket-keeper), Dinesh Karthik (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya, R.
