Mitchell Starc won the the Allan Border medal, having performed exceptionally well for Australia in 2021. However, things were not easy for the premier fast bowler as he had to face a lot of issues on and off the field. Shane Warne was critical of his performance and spoke openly against his selection for Ashes 2021-22.
“I had to face on and off the field issues and there was a time when didn’t want to play cricket at all,” Starc said on Fox Sports Australia.
When he was asked about Warne’s criticism, the left-arm speedster first refused to comment but when asked again, Starc finally opened up and said – “It doesn’t interest me at all. He is entitled to his opinion. I am going to play my cricket the way I want. I have the support of my family and teammates and that’s enough for me,” said Starc.
He said that there was a time when such criticism used to spur him but that’s not the case anymore.
Mitchell played an important role in Australia’s Ashes triumph against the arch-rivals England. The hosts won 4-0.
