Mayank Agarwal was Team India’s star performer on day 1 of the second Test match against New Zealand in Mumbai. The right-handed batter scored his fifth hundred in red-ball cricket, which put India in a reasonably good position.
Mayank was unbeaten on 120 at the end of day’s play. The hosts reached 221-4 at stumps. It was his fifth Test hundred.
He struck seven more fours and another two sixes in the final session and countered New Zealand’s spinners with ease using immaculate footwork. Overall, he hit 14 fours and four sixes.
Mayank, who was under the scanner prior to this match, revealed what Dravid told him after his selection for the series.
“”When I was picked Here, Rahul Dravid bhai came and spoke to me. He said, ‘listen, just control what is in your hands. You have this opportunity, go out and give your Best’. That’s all he asked of me,” he said.
“This Innings was more about grit and determination, sticking to a plan and Having the mental discipline to be at it. I know there were times when I didn’t look good but it didn’t make much of a difference as long as the job was getting done,” he added.
