The Madras High Court has refused to stay the proceedings of a defamation case filed by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni. MSD had filed a lawsuit against an IPS officer G Sampath Kumar and Zee Media. The case was filed in 2014, and the court’s latest order is a big blow for the officer.
As per TV9, Dhoni had accused Zee Media Corporation and Sampath Kumar of running news of his fake involvement in spot-fixing and betting in IPL. Sampath Kumar was involved in the investigation of the IPL betting case.
Dhoni stated that the accused made defamatory statements against him. The motive was to tarnish his image in the eyes of cricket fans. He has demanded Rs 100 crore for the damages caused by this fake narrative. G Sampath Kumar had filed a petition challenging the defamation case.
Sampath revealed Dhoni’s involvement to the Mudgal Committee appointed to probe the spot-fixing and betting scam in IPL.
