Australia have been blessed with star players across formats. Shane Warne is considered as one the greatest spinners in the history of cricket. He recently admitted that divorce with his wife Simone Callahan was one of the toughest phases of his life.
Warne and his wife seperated just before the Ashes in 2005. Their marriage lasted for 10 years. The veteran spoke about his divorce while commentating for Foxtel.
Taking all the blame upon himself for the ugly fallout, he revealed how tough it was to perform in the 2005 Ashes.
“Getting divorced was a difficult time for me and my children, and it was my fault. So I will live with it for the rest of my life, it wasn’t easy at all.”
“We seperated a week before the Ashes series in 2005 and I had to drag myself to play against a quality England side,” he further continued.
He was targeted by England fans. “There were chants for six hours a day, not just ten minutes, singing songs like “Where’s your missus gone?”‘, he stated.
The divorce meant Warne had to bid farewell to his kids a week after welcoming them during summer holidays.
“I didn’t pull out of the Ashes because my kids wanted me to compete but it was a tough time. It was the only we lost during my presence. I did reasonably well with the bat and ball,” he added.
