Former Bengal captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla has come forward and made a sizable donation for the fight against coronavirus. He has been involved in cricket media since his retirement from the sport and was one of the commentators during Star Sports’ coverage of the IPL 2021 in Bengali.

The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has now made a contribution to help the community in the fight against COVID-19. Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who is celebrating his 40th birthday on Thursday, took to Twitter and announced that he will donate all his earnings from his recent gig as the Bengali commentator for the IPL 2021.

Shukla, who won the 2012 IPL title with KKR, donated his salary to the West Bengal chief minister’s relief fund, hoping to help India, which battling with the second wave of COVID-19. Earlier this week, IPL 2021 was called off midway and postponed indefinitely after the virus entered the bio-bubble.

Shukla held the position of Minister of State Sports and Youth Services of West Bengal from 2016 when he was elected in his district of Howrah. He, however, resigned from his post earlier this year. He has been helping the people in need during these tough times through various campaigns.

Apart from KKR, he also played for Delhi Daredevils and SunRisers Hyderabad. He represented Bengal for almost 18 years, between 1997 and 2015. During his playing career, he featured in 137 first-class, 141 List A, and 81 T20 matches.
