Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka have been suspended for breaching the team’s bio-bubble in England.

Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella and Danushka Gunathilaka have been suspended for breaching the team’s bio-bubble in England. They were seen roaming around a Durham marketplace and are being sent back home, board’s secretary Mohan De Silva confirmed.

Videos and images of the players walking around a market went viral on social media.

Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan De Silva confirmed the news before the first one-day international versus England in Durham.

“Sri Lanka Cricket executive Committee has suspended Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka & Niroshan Dickwella for breaching the bio- bubble and they will be immediately recalled to Sri Lanka,” De Silva said.

Sri Lankan players were not allowed to go out in Durham considering the rising cases of Covid-19. Earlier, ICC Match referee Phil Whitticase, who officiated in the T20 series between England and Sri Lanka, had tested positive for the virus. All the players and the support staff members were declared safe but some of the match officials and anti-corruption unit teams were sent into isolation for 10 days as they were in touch with the match referee.
