Former India player Saba Karim feels the pair of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh is ahead of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
India have always been blessed with match-winning spinners. Ashwin and Jadeja are among the best spinners at the moment.
During a discussion on India News, Saba Karim was asked to pick between Kumble-Harbhajan and Ashwin-Jadeja.
“My vote will go to Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh. Their era was more challenging. In today’s era, the quality of cricket is improving but the standard of batting has fallen against spin.”
The former wicket-keeper said that Kumble and Harbhajan had to bowl to better batsmen.
“The quality of batsmanship was amazing in their time. The batters performed well in front of the spinners.”
Saba Karim highlighted that almost all the teams had batters who batted well against the spinners.
“There were a number of foreign players who batted exceedingly well against top-quality spinners. Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul made life difficult for the spinners. Even England batters played the spinners well.”
Kumble and Harbhajan took 501 wickets in the 54 Test matches they played together. India won 21 of these contests and drew as many, with 12 defeats.
