Deepak Chahar starred with the bat as India won the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The 28-year-old played a match-winning knock of 69 runs off 82 balls and guided his side to a three-wicket win.
Chahar’s brilliant innings not only kept the fans on tenterhooks but also left India skipper Virat Kohli and head coach Ravi Shastri glued to the television.
Virat Kohli and India’s main squad are currently in Durham, gearing up for the upcoming five-match Test series against England.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently took to its official Twitter handle and shared a video in which Indian players can be seen cheering for Shikhar Dhawan-led side during the second ODI.
Captioning the video, BCCI wrote, “When #TeamIndia in Durham cheered for #TeamIndia in Colombo. From dressing room, dining room and on the bus, not a moment of this memorable win was missed. #SLvIND.”
Speaking of the match, chasing a target of 276 runs, the visitors got off to a poor start as they lost five wickets with just 116 runs on the board.
However, Chahar’s unbeaten knock took the game away from Sri Lanka. He stitched a crucial partnership of 84 runs with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to seal the victory for the Men in Blue.
Both the teams will next face each other in the third and final ODI in Colombo on July 23.
