KL Rahul could pip Rohit Sharma in Test captaincy race if reports are to be believed. The Hitman was named Virat Kohli’s deputy for the Test series in South Africa, but he was ruled out of the tour after injuring his left hamstring.
Though, Rohit, India’s vice-captain, is higher in the pecking order, Rahul could be named as full-time Test skipper if the BCCI opts for split captaincy.
“Rohit Sharma is the front runner to be the new test captain but selectors could have a fresh discussion on Test captaincy. KL Rahul being the other name. As per process, a designated vice-captain would become the next skipper but selectors could take workload management into account and opt for a different captain in red-ball cricket,” a source told Times Now.
Rohit Sharma is 34 years old and is not the long-term replacement for Virat.
Rahul, on the other hand, is 29. Hence, going ahead with him seems to be a better option.
