Kevin Pietersen is one of the most controversial figures in world cricket, who has made below the belt statements against his own teammates and rivals. His most recent comment on Australia’s number one spinner Nathan Lyon has crossed all the limits.

Lyon has taken more than 400 Test wickets and is a highly respected by even rivals. Instead of lauding him for his exceptional bowling display, the former England player made an insulating remark on the off-spinner.

“Can SOMEONE please smack Lyon?!?!! FFS! Off spinner with zero variations and bowling on world crickets flattest road,” he wrote.

For the record, Lyon took three wickets in the first innings of the second Test match at the Adelaide.

Mitchell Starc’s milestone in day-night test matches has left Australia in command of the second Ashes test, with the home side taking a 282-run lead to stumps on day three with nine wickets in hand.

England capitulated from 150-2 to be all out for 236 in reply to Australia’s first-innings total of 473-9 declared.

Australia captain Steve Smith decided against enforcing the follow-on before the home side went to stumps Saturday at 45-1 with Australia’s David Warner the man run out after a mid-wicket mix-up.

Australia’s Nathan Lyon also had a big influence, taking 3-58 on a pitch where England opted against playing a specialist spinner.
