Kapil Dev and Jasprit Bumrah
Kapil Dev slammed Jasprit Bumrah

India has had a miserable 2022 in terms of crucial tournaments. The Men in Blue saw an early exit from the Asia Cup and faced humiliation by the hand of England in the 2022 T20 World Cup semi-finals.

One major reason behind India’s dismal performance was a few key players sitting out due to injuries. Bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah missed the Asia Cup and World Cup due to a back injury, while Deepak Chahar, Kuldeep Sen, and Prasidh Krishna also missed out on most of the action due to injuries.

Speaking about injuries, World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, who rarely got injured in his career, weighed in his views on the matter and criticised the lack of intent in nets.

Dev pointed out that bowlers bowl just 30 balls in the net, which is disappointing, given their season is of more than ten months.

“I am told that the pacers bowl just 30 balls in the nets. It is disappointing because the more you bowl in the nets, your muscles will develop. Bowling less in the nets is one of the primary reasons why bowlers’ bodies start cracking up.”

“The cricket season is of more than ten months. Playing more means a higher chance of getting injured. Thus, adapting to the game is not easy. Bowlers need to bowl more in the nets.”
