SunRisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson has left the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 for the birth of his second child.

Former India player Wasim Jaffer thinks Kane Williamson has been made a bakhra or sacrificial lamb in the Sunrisers Hyderabad team as he will have to score heavily for the franchise after the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Apart from Kane, the management has added Rahul Tripathi, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram and Glenn Phillips to their batting line-up. They also have Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad in the team. Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Jaffer said:

“I think Kane Williamson is going to be Hyderabadi bakhra in that team. They have good players but Kane will have to do the hard yards in IPL 2022.”

He suggested that Kane should bat at No.3. However, Jaffer also added that the New Zealand batter could get out early in the innings in pursuit of quick runs.

“I think Kane Williamson batting at No.3 batting slot is good for SRH. If he comes out to bat in the powerplay, he could be dismissed early in pursuit of quick runs.”

Wasim said that Abhishek Sharma, for whom the Hyderabad based franchise shelled out INR 6.25 crore could be an option for the opening slot.

“Abhishek Sharma opens for the Indian Oil and he is a good batter. He has also the shots in his batting arsenal so he should open the innings for SRH.”
