A Delhi family court has ordered Aesha Mukherjee, the estranged wife of cricketer Shikhar Dhawan, to bring their nine-year-old son Zoravar to India for a family gathering. The court emphasized that a mother does not have exclusive rights over a child.

Initially, Dhawan’s request was rejected due to concerns about the child missing school. However, he later informed the court that the gathering had been rescheduled to coincide with the child’s school holidays. Aesha opposed this, stating that the event would not be successful as many family members were not consulted about the date.

Judge Harish Kumar from Delhi’s Patiala House Courts remarked that the mother alone does not possess exclusive rights over the child, raising the question of why she opposes the petitioner’s desire to meet his own child, especially when he is not a bad father. The court clarified that Dhawan is seeking temporary custody and questioned the validity of Aesha’s unwillingness to comply.

The court also noted that Shikhar’s family had not seen the child since August 2020. Even if some family members did not attend the function, Dhawan and his parents would enjoy the company of their beloved child.

Legal cases related to divorce and custody of the child are ongoing in both India and Australia for the couple.
