Reflecting on Jemimah’s leadership, Charani emphasized the close bond they share and commended her ability to deliver under pressure.
Delhi Capitals’ left-arm spinner Shree Charani is confident her team will break their WPL title run in the upcoming season under new skipper Jemimah Rodrigues. With Meg Lanning‘s exit, Charani is optimistic that Jemimah’s leadership will bring in a new era of success for the Capitals.
Although Charani was initially let go by the franchise, Delhi made a bold move to re-sign her, shelling out Rs 1.30 crore to secure the left-arm spinner’s services after her outstanding performance in India’s Women’s World Cup 2025 campaign.
Delhi Capitals are entering a new era with Jemimah Rodrigues leading the way. The young captain is at the peak of her career, having played a stellar knock of 127 not out off 134 balls in the World Cup semi-final against defending champions Australia. Her performance helped India successfully chase down a record target of 339, setting a new benchmark for women’s ODI cricket. Jemimah will look to carry that momentum into the WPL and finally deliver the elusive title for DC.
Reflecting on Jemimah’s leadership, Charani emphasized the close bond they share and commended her ability to deliver under pressure. She also praised Jemimah’s keen understanding of people, which sets her apart as a leader.
“I’ve known Jemimah for nearly a year, and we’ve built a great rapport. She knows me really well, how I react and behave in different situations, so our communication flows effortlessly. One thing I truly admire about her is her ability to understand people, especially how they perform under pressure and how to bring out the best in them. The way she motivates and inspires everyone is truly remarkable. I have a strong feeling that this year, we’re going to win the trophy,” said the left-arm spinner.
Charani made her WPL debut in 2025 as an unfamiliar name but quickly caught the attention of batters with her deceptive variations in the few chances she had. Heading into the upcoming season, she will now be seen as a proven international asset, with higher expectations and more eyes on her performances.
While Delhi Capitals had the seasoned Jess Jonassen as a left-arm spin option last season, Charani will be the team’s sole left-arm spinner this year. Despite the extra pressure that comes with this responsibility, the 21-year-old feels calm and focused, aiming solely at executing her skills.
“I don’t really pay much attention to pressure. I just concentrate on doing what I do best, executing my skills, and allowing the results to take care of themselves,” she said.
